World Environment Day 2024

World Environment Day 2024

This World Environment Day, we’re calling on everyone working in food to be part of Generation Restoration, working with Future Food Movement to upskill and drive climate action in food.

It is widely recognised that our global food production and consumption habits place an unsustainable burden on the health of our bodies, minds and planet.

To achieve Net Zero and support land restoration, we need to decarbonise our entire food system – and one of the biggest unlocks is collectively shifting to lower-carbon diets which align with public health goals.

World Environment Day is the largest global platform for environmental outreach, celebrated by millions worldwide. It’s a pivotal day for us all, especially within the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030). This initiative is crucial for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by protecting and reviving ecosystems worldwide.

We are the last generation who can truly do something about the triple threat facing our planet: climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste.

These crises threaten our ecosystems, with billions of hectares of land degraded, impacting nearly half of the world’s population and threatening half of global GDP. The hardest hit are rural communities, smallholder farmers, and the extremely poor.

However, land restoration offers hope. Every dollar invested can yield up to $30 in ecosystem services. Restoration boosts livelihoods, reduces poverty, builds resilience to extreme weather, increases carbon storage, and slows climate change. By restoring just 15% of land and halting further conversion, we could avoid up to 60% of expected species extinctions.

Our land. Our future. We are Generation Restoration.

Join us, this is a movement and anyone working in food can be part of it.

We work across all divisions and teams because every job is a climate job and has a role to play in driving the whole system transformation needed. We have inspiring, actionable upskilling to support food and drink businesses:
