FARMER ADVISORY BOARD MEETING – MARCH 2024

FARMER ADVISORY BOARD MEETING – MARCH 2024

The second of our bi-monthly meetings in partnership with Cool Farm took place on 27th March, which once again brought farmers, to manufacturers, processors and brands to address critical industry issues and provide a space to discuss opportunities and hear from the wider supply chain.

We took this opportunity to set up a vision piece..

“What would you like the food system of the future to look like?”
Key takeaways:

Respectful: Regaining respect for the food we eat and the people who produce it. Calling for Farmers to be valued and trusted as they are the ones creating our food. It was highlighted that farmers deserve fair compensation for their efforts and for adopting practices that reduce the environmental impact if the climate crisis damages their crops. Shorter supply chains, facilitating direct-to-consumer distribution, could increase farmers’ profit margins and make them more connected to the remainder of the food system cycle after their product leaves the farm.

Informed and Transparent: The importance of education in understanding the value of food was a key theme. Increased interaction with farmers could engage the public and enhance their comprehension of the food system. Initiatives like Open Farm Sunday bridges the gap between the environment and farming [find more here]. There was a clear call for establishing a precise definition of regenerative agriculture and the actions to promote its adoption.
