Bio

David is Deputy Chief Executive of the Food, Farming and Countryside Commission, helping to lead the organisation’s work to radically improve the UK policy discourse on Food, Farming and Land Use by ensuring the direct participation of citizens, farmers and a full range of business voices.

David spent his early career at Kantar providing market insight to major food and drinks brands before taking his Master’s Degree in International Sustainable Development, going on to consult on development programmes across Africa - in Liberia, Kenya and Malawi.

Over past 17 years, David has had a distinguished career working with farmers, policy makers and business leaders to advance food systems transformation both in the UK and internationally including as Director of Food Strategy, at WWF-UK (2018-2023), and as Assistant Director in the Prince of Wales’ International Sustainability Unit (2007-2017). He is a founding Trustee of The Food Foundation UK.

David lives in Surrey with his wife Elizabeth and two boys, and when not working can usually be found either tending his vegetable garden, or cycling up and down the Surrey Hills.
